Caritas  Programs

Respite care programs and in home care provided by Caritas volunteers.  Caritas is a local, unique, organization of trained caregivers and community professionals providing non-medical, non-hands-on support, free of charge, to seriously and terminally ill individuals and their families.

We provide respite for caregivers, emotional support, companionship, diversion for children with an ill parent, and transportation to medical appointments or errands. Since 1983, Caritas has provided respite care in New York State to preserve the dignity, integrity, and personal choices of the individual, enabling them to live their lives as fully as possible.

Caritas evaluates the needs of the client and family to best provide non-medical, non-hands-on services based on individual needs. Monthly case management reviews are conducted by staff with the volunteer to evaluate the progress made with meeting the needs of our clients and to assess any changing needs of our clients. All support continues, as needed, through bereavement, to assist the family through the grieving process. Confidentiality is maintained at all times. Caritas serves every type of illness, with no age requirements, or qualifications, other than being “seriously ill, or the caregiver of a loved one who is seriously ill”. The length of service provided by Caritas volunteers varies based on the specifics of the client’s illness. The time period for assistance may be as short as a few days to as long as several years depending on the needs of the client.

Caritas volunteers deliver assistance to those coping with a health related crisis with compassion, love, laughter and tears, and genuine friendship. Caritas volunteers are making a world of difference in their communities: “TO THE WORLD YOU MAY BE JUST ONE PERSON, BUT TO ONE PERSON YOU MAY BE THE WORLD.”

Caritas services are provided free of charge to individuals in New York's Warren, Washington, and northern Saratoga Counties.  We are located 45 minutes north of the Capital area region of Upstate New York.
